The Board of The Autism Treehouse Inc. is committed to protecting the privacy of personal information which the organisation collects, holds and administers. Personal information is information which directly or indirectly identifies a person.




The purpose of this document is to provide a framework for The Autism Treehouse Inc. in dealing with privacy considerations.




The Autism Treehouse Inc. collects and administers a range of personal information for the purposes of keeping our members updated with relevant information of the organisations operations. The organisation is committed to protecting the privacy of personal information it collects, holds and administers.

The Autism Treehouse Inc.  recognises the essential right of individuals to have their information administered in ways which they would reasonably expect – protected on one hand, and made accessible to them on the other.  These privacy values are reflected in and supported by our core values and philosophies.

The Autism Treehouse Inc. is bound by laws which impose specific obligations when it comes to handling information. The Autism Treehouse Inc. has adopted the following principles contained as minimum standards in relation to handling personal information.

The Autism Treehouse Inc. will

·       Collect only information which the organisation requires for its primary function;

·       Ensure that stakeholders are informed as to why we collect the information and how we administer the information gathered;

·       Use and disclose personal information only for our primary functions or a directly related purpose, or for another purpose with the person’s consent;

·       Store personal information securely, protecting it from unauthorised access; and

·       Provide stakeholders with access to their own information, and the right to seek its correction.




The Autism Treehouse Inc. Board is responsible for developing, adopting and reviewing this policy.

The Autism Treehouse Inc. Managing Director is responsible for the implementation of this policy, for monitoring changes in Privacy legislation, and for advising on the need to review or revise this policy as and when the need arises.





The Autism Treehouse Inc. will:

·      Only collect information that is necessary for the performance and primary function of The Autism Treehouse Inc.

·      Notify stakeholders about why we collect the information and how it is administered.

·      Notify stakeholders that this information is accessible to them.



Use and Disclosure

The Autism Treehouse Inc. will:

·      Only use or disclose information for the primary purpose for which it was collected or a directly related secondary purpose. 

·      For other uses, The Autism Treehouse Inc. will obtain consent from the affected person.



Data Quality

The Autism Treehouse Inc. will:

·     Take reasonable steps to ensure the information the organisation collects is accurate, complete, up to date, and relevant to the functions we perform.



Data Security and Retention

The Autism Treehouse Inc. will:

·       Safeguard the information we collect and store against misuse, loss, unauthorised access and modification. 

·       Only destroy records in accordance with the organisation’s Records Management Policy.




The Autism Treehouse Inc. will:

·       Ensure stakeholders are aware of The Autism Treehouse Inc. Privacy Policy and its purposes.  

·       Make this information freely available in relevant publications and on the organisation’s website.



Access and Correction

The Autism Treehouse Inc. will:

·       Ensure individuals have a right to seek access to information held about them and to correct it if it is inaccurate, incomplete, misleading or not up to date.




The Autism Treehouse Inc. will:

·       Give stakeholders the option of not identifying themselves when completing evaluation forms or opinion surveys.



Making information available to other organisations The Autism Treehouse Inc. can:

·      Only release personal information about a person with that person’s express permission. For personal information to be released, the person concerned must sign a release form.  

·      Can release information to third parties where it is requested by the person concerned.


Photo & Video Disclaimer

STEPS Autism Treehouse reserves the right to use any photograph/video taken at any event sponsored by STEPS Autism Treehouse (SAT), without the expressed written permission of those included within the photograph/video. SAT may use the photograph/video in publications or other media material produced or used by SAT including but not limited to: brochures, invitations, newspapers, magazines, television, websites, etc.

To ensure the privacy of individuals and children, images will not be identified using personal names without written approval from the photographed subject, parent or legal guardian.

A person attending a SAT event who does not wish to have their image recorded for distribution should make their wishes known to the photographer, and/or the event organisers, and/or contact SAT at 78 Duporth Ave, Maroochydore Qld 4558, in writing of his/her intentions and include a photograph. SAT will use the photo for identification purposes and will hold it in strict confidence.

By participating in a SAT event or by failing to notify SAT, in writing, your desire to not have your photograph used by SAT, you are agreeing to release, defend, hold harmless and indemnify SAT from any and all claims involving the use of your picture or likeness.

Any person or organisation not affiliated with STEPS Autism Treehouse may not use, copy, alter or modify SAT photographs, graphics, videography or other, similar reproductions or recordings without the advance written permission of an authorised designee from SAT.
